It wouldn’t be a trip to San Francisco if we didn’t visit the most famous island in the world, now classed as one of America’s 61 National Parks. Alcatraz was home to some of the most notorious criminals to have lived at the time between the 30’s and 60’s. Including non other than life gangster, Al Capone who, interestingly only got put inside for Tax Evasion, despite being a notoriously violent man.
Alcatraz was originally used as a military prison, and later on converted to a max security prison. Only 5 people ever escaped, 4 were never found and 1 was recaptured having made the treacherous swim across the water to the mainland.
